Robert W. Anderson, 81, a longtime Markham resident and retired metallurgical engineer, died Wednesday in the Lutheran Home of Northwest Indiana. Mr. Anderson, who was born in Charleston, Ill., graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1938. He worked as an engineer for Wisconsin Steel for 42 years and served on the board of the company’s credit union for 33 years. He retired in 1981. Mr. Anderson served on several school boards, including the South Suburban College and the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. He was also a former treasurer of the United Way of Markham and the Markham Salvation Army. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; four daughters, Virginia, Laurel, Karen and Brenda Aulwurm; three sons, Gerald, Kenneth and David; his mother, Nora; his brother, Albert; two sisters, Dorothy Lanman and Nellie Hughes; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Tews Funeral Home, 18230 S. Dixie Highway, Homewood. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the same location.
