A much-debated plan to construct a $60 million senior-citizen residential complex received a warm greeting Thursday night from the village’s Appearance Review Commission.
The reception was markedly different than that from the Barrington Plan Commission.
The developer, Barrington Venture LLC, appeared before the Appearance Review Commission to seek direction related to earlier recommendations from the Plan Commission. In February, the Plan Commission set several conditions that developers would have to meet before it would endorse the plan.
Appearance Review Commissioner Joseph Coath took exception to a Plan Commission directive to limit the height of the development’s innermost buildings to 45 feet. Under the village’s zoning regulations, no building can exceed 35 feet in height.
Commissioner Carol Best objected to the fact the Appearance Review Commission had not been consulted by the Plan Commission, which had reviewed the proposal numerous times in previous months.
Jim Wallace, a village planning and zoning official, said the plan would likely be brought back before the Plan Commission later this month.
