The Village Board voted Monday night to approve rezoning that will allow the development of a six-home subdivision despite the complaints of neighbors who objected that the lot sizes are smaller than 1 acre.
The proposal for the 5-acre parcel at 14243 S. 108th Ave. would feature five new homes on lots of 21,987 square feet to 28,362 square feet and one existing home on a 58,959-square-foot lot, said John Griffin, an attorney for developer Henry Coyle.
Christina Dado, who lives east of the project, said the village’s comprehensive plan calls for one home per acre for that area, and she asked officials to reduce the number of new homes in the project to four. The neighboring land features estate homes on parcels of 1 to 10 acres, she said.
“The issue remains whether or not developers feel that they can circumvent a comprehensive plan. . . . If Mr. Coyle’s property is rezoned, that just sets the pattern for the future of 108th Street and this section of Orland,” Dado said at a recent meeting.
