Alex Sherman, 79, a longtime employee of the Chicago Water Department, died April 30 at his Morton Grove residence. After his 26-year tenure with the Water Department, Mr. Sherman spent seven years working for the Cook County Forest Preserve District. He was born in Chicago and attended Oakton Community College in Des Plaines. According to his wife, Norma Ferraro Sherman, she and her husband met at a dance in 1955 at the Temple Shalom in Chicago. They were married in 1958. “Even though we weren’t big money earners, we had a nice life and were always able to travel,” she said. Besides his wife, Mr. Sherman’s survivors include three brothers, Louis, Ben and Charles. Services were held Friday in Hillside.
