I applaud Clarence Page’s insightful May 13 column regarding prostate cancer (“Coming soon: A Viagra elite,” Op-Ed). As he emphasizes, screening, early detection and open discussion can help the rainbow of American men at risk for this all-too-common disease.

The candor of the Doles in discussing what has too often been a taboo in our male culture is a public service. All too often, denial of symptoms and delay in seeking medical advice have put lives further at risk. With wit and good humor, Mr. Page illuminates a major health issue for American men and their families.
