Your May 13 editorial on India’s nuclear explosions made a lot of sense. The CIA’s failure to detect what had been going on is deplorable. And the fact that India, the world’s largest democracy, chose to ignore world public opinion is a trend in the wrong direction.
The reason India detonated these explosives is to shore up support for India’s shaky government. The current government is basically opposed to Pakistan’s Muslim majority, and this is a problem that will not go away soon.
