Look, if you’re sanctioning people for setting off bombs, you better start with the Cubs bullpen.
THE BUZZ
Latest rumor out of New York: Cubs outfielder Brant Brown and a pitching prospect to Montreal, Expos pitcher Carlos Perez to the Mets, New York catcher Todd Hundley to the Cubs.
This, of course, is contingent on Hundley’s recovery from elbow surgery.
Then again, with the way Scott Servais has been hitting and throwing, maybe not.
BLAH BLAH BLAH
Looks like Indiana coach Larry Bird found someone else to blame–something else, actually–for Jalen Rose’s rule-breaking walk: NBC.
Bird said the network’s repeated showings of Rose’s heading toward the Ron Harper-Reggie Miller scuffle in Game 4 is what really caused the league to suspend Rose for Game 5.
“That’s why I don’t give (NBC) much time,” Bird said. “If they want to interview me, I give them two or three minutes and then I’m out of there.”
But carping about Scottie Pippen’s defense on Mark Jackson, he’s got all the time you need.
MAKING THE CALL
The NHL boldly admitted that its officials made errors in calls that affected the outcome of a playoff game between Buffalo and Washington.
The NBA immediately fined the NHL $10,000.
LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
NBC announced that it will form it own pro football league.
So there you go. Opponents for Notre Dame.
KICK BALL
Fans attending soccer’s approaching World Cup tournament in France face threats of strikes by truckers, pilots and train personnel. They also could be caught in the middle of terrorist acts or be victimized by pickpockets.
Or worse, they could watch soccer.
RING HEADS
Former President Bush will be an honorary member of a committee that will try to bring the 2012 Summer Olympics to Houston.
Read my lips: No new Teshes.
FAR, FAR AWAY
NASA researchers believe they found a planet outside our solar system.
Actually, it’s just the White Sox’s chances.
