Trustees have narrowed their list of sites for a new police station, focusing on village property at Illinois Highway 53 and Short Street.

The village owns two parcels that form a U around the Snow Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Trustees had believed the site would be too small for the station.

“We asked the village’s Space Needs Committee to re-examine its projections for the Police Department,” said Mayor Ron Ghilardi.

Reducing some areas in size, along with lowering future hiring estimates, resulted in a proposed building of 35,200 square feet, down from 41,800 square feet. The department operates in 13,716 square feet.
