CTA bus route No. 129 is supposed to make all stops on Adams Street on its way toward the Metra station at Madison and Canal Streets. But on Monday, two 129s passed other passengers and me while we waited for it at Adams and Wabash.

Also, on at least three previous occasions, the bus driver has not known what route to take and had to ask the passengers. The problem Monday apparently arose because No. 129 is an express route for at least a portion of its run, and the drivers must have thought it was express all the way. For some reason, these problems arise only in the evening rush hour. The morning drivers have no problem adhering to the route.

Because two No. 129s passed us that day, we had to take a Union Station bus and walk to Madison. One of the passengers forced to do so was a woman in a wheelchair, who, because of the uneven sidewalks and curbcuts on Clinton Street, made slow progress. Indeed, her wheelchair could not pass over the curb at Clinton and Madison in front of the train station, and she was nearly hit by a car! Needless to say, the woman missed her train.

I believe that drivers having to ask the passengers for directions and skipping scheduled stops when the bus is not overcrowded is scandalous.
