The Fox Valley Park District on Thursday closed Splash Country Aquatic Park to counsel distressed lifeguards the day after a 3-year-old boy drowned.

Counselors working with the lifeguards recommended the pool stay closed Friday also for further staff counseling, said Park District President Charles J. Myler.

“They are all high school and college students, and they are all devastated,” he said.

Myler said that all lifeguards are extensively trained and that Wednesday’s drowning was the only fatality since the Park District opened its first aquatic enter in Phillips Park in 1991.

The $7 million Splash Country opened this month. A swimmer found Jordan Braxton of Aurora floating face up in the pool Wednesday afternoon, police said. Lifeguards attempted to revive him, police said.

The water was about 3 1/2 feet deep where the boy was found, according to a Park District news release. Six lifeguards were in the portion of the facility being used by Jordan, police said.

Police said at least one sibling and both parents were at Blackberry Farm, the park that comprises the aquatic center, but were unsure if they were near Jordan when the incident occurred.
