Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I was quite disappointed reading Mr. Bayless’ column regarding Joe Durant’s win at the Western Open (Tribune, June 29). I found the writing to be a slap in the face to all golfers competing on the fringe tours as well as the PGA. These people struggle to make a career playing golf, and to say that Mr. Durant’s victory was a “bummer” because he “crashed Tiger’s party ” flies in the face of the unwritten code of respect and integrity that constitutes the game of golf.

While they should be congratulated and remembered for winning the so-called fifth major, the Western Open is not the sole property of Tiger, Walter Hagen, Ben Hogan, Ralph Guldhal or any of the other golfers whose names grace the Wadley Trophy, including Mr. Durant. The Western Open is not the “Tiger Open.” It belongs to the game of golf and not to any individual.
