I am happy to see that you are covering the issues in East Timor. As Americans, we have an important role to play in supporting the Timorese right to self-determination. The U.S. first blocked UN resolutions calling for Indonesia to withdraw its troops, and then supplied the weapons that made the genocidal occupation possible. This point is routinely omitted from newspaper accounts. The Tribune has an important role to play by reporting these facts when publishing stories about East Timor.
