Warrenville City Council members Monday night delayed consideration of a $4,590 study of the city’s water system that would explore the possibility of bringing in Lake Michigan water.
The proposed study is prompted by rapid growth spurred by the Cantera development within the city’s borders, but council members want to delay a decision until they can see whether the developer will foot at least a portion of the bill.
The study, which would be conducted by Naperville-based J.J. Benes and Associates, is to examine the city’s water infrastructure to determine costs and logistics of bringing in lake water.
Residents currently tap water from private and city-run wells, said Mayor Vivian Lund. She noted that the development of Cantera “has been much more aggressive than in our original plan.”
