Agar McKey Brown, 89, of St. Charles died Sunday in Rosewood Health Care Center in Elgin. Born in Holyoke, Colo., Mr. Brown spent his childhood in Denver and Glendale, Calif. As a young man, he lived in the wilds of Alaska. He worked for Shell Oil Co. of California and was a field engineer for Bireley’s Bottling Co. of Hollywood, Boston and Chicago. During World War II, Mr. Brown built attack planes and bombers for the U.S. military. After the war, he became national secretary of the Golf Course Superintendents Association, owned a restaurant in Sycamore and retired in 1982 as an assistant to the Kane County clerk in Geneva. Survivors include a son, Agar. A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at his home, 316 Iroquois Ave., St. Charles.
