Recently I had the privilege of volunteering with the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Burn Camp with other paramedics, firefighters, nurses and doctors from the Chicago metropolitan area. Burn Camp, with offices in Mt. Prospect, is designed for children ages 8 to 16 with minor to severe burns. The I.F.S.A. Burn Camp builds character and self-esteem in a non-judgmental environment with a great deal of fun-filled activities throughout the course of the week. Our kids are not victims–they are survivors with courage, compassion and hope, with smiles that will light up the sky.
