Harry S. Kurshenbaum, a union organizer and leader in Chicago, died Tuesday in Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago. Mr. Kurshenbaum, 83, was the former president of Local 73 of the General Services Employee Union in Chicago. He had been a member of the union for 30 years. “He was very active in organizing and building up the membership. He was quite a radical,” said Norbert Ciesil, a co-worker and friend. During his years as president and business manager of the union, membership rose from 9,000 to 20,000 members. “He was always trying to help the workers and give them rights,” Ciesil said. He was recently reappointed to the Illinois Health Planning Board. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a sister, Esther; and a brother, Sam. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Piser Original Weinstein Chapel, 3019 W. Peterson Ave., Chicago.
