Gus J. Ritter, a longtime Woodstock resident who was elected to three local government bodies, died Thursday in his home. He was 88. Mr. Ritter served on the Woodstock Public Grade School Board from 1951 to 1956, the Woodstock City Council from 1961 to 1965 and the McHenry County Board from 1982 to 1986. He was an agent for Prudential Insurance for 33 years. Mr. Ritter was a life member of the Harvard Moose Lodge, a licensed private pilot and a model railroad enthusiast. Survivors include his wife, Ethel; two sons, Rex and Gary; two daughters, Barbara Abbott and Sharon Rogers; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. The visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Grace Lutheran Church followed by 10:30 a.m. funeral services.
