I was dismayed by two of your articles in the Aug. 2 sports section. First, “Of God, money and football” was a maliciously written article. I found the use of reference of Champions for Christ as “the Great Satan” to be both slanderous and unjustified. I am amazed that a newspaper of your size and caliber would print such a biased article. The insinuations made through the use of “sports agent opinions” in this article are completely unfounded. If the organization was forcing athletes to give a tenth of their earnings, as “some agents charged,” donations would be much greater than the $805,249 that the organization (received in donations). (Some) Champions for Christ, such as Mark Brunell and Tony Boselli, earn well into the millions of dollars by themselves.
Furthermore, Melissa Isaacson’s article “Keep walk, lose all the talk” is ridiculous. I thought that in America we have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. To say that players shouldn’t express their religious beliefs at work is absurd.
I sincerely hope that the Tribune is seeking to print the truth rather than tabloid journalism. My hope is that in the future you will attempt to print truth rather than hiding behind what “some agents” have said.
