The Frankfort and Mokena Fire Protection Districts have instituted a combined firefighter-training program for employees of both districts.
The program will enable “the right hand to know what the left hand is doing,” explained Frankfort Fire Chief Jim Grady.
As Mokena and Frankfort firefighters train together, they will learn techniques, uniform codes and terminology that will be used by both districts, he said. They also will become familiar with the equipment at both firehouses and learn where it is stored.
Grady said the program was started in order to better serve a growing area.
“Both communities are growing rapidly,” Grady said. “We need to support one another.”
Each district will remain a separate entity; keep its own staff, budgets and location; and continue to serve their respective communities.
