A plan to build 47 single-family homes on six acres off Irving Park Road has been rejected as all six Itasca village trustees told a developer that the area was too small for that many houses.

The trustees’ comments echoed the opinions of the nearly 20 unincorporated Itasca residents who attended a recent Village Board meeting.

“Everyone moved out of the city to the suburbs, and now you are pushing them back in,” said Trustee Ron Putzell, alluding to the small space between each of the proposed homes.

Glenn Richmond of Rolling Meadows-based United Homes of Illinois formally presented the plan, which called for developing six acres between Hillcrest Boulevard and Valley Lane.

He said the houses would resemble some of the homes in old Itasca, with a neo-traditional style.

The plan was still in its early stages, he said, because the land would have to be annexed by the village before any work could be done. Richmond said his firm originally had planned to develop townhouses in the area.
