The economic development projects of eight municipalities in Kane County recently were awarded grants under the county’s 1998 Small Cities Grant program.
The competitive program is designed to reward such development initiatives in the county’s rural and urban communities with populations of 50,000 or fewer. A total of $65,000 was available through the program, and grants of up to $12,000 were awarded. Grantees are required to provide matching funds or in-kind services.
Grant recipients were Algonquin, for its marketing of the Algonquin Business Park; Batavia, for its downtown comprehensive plan; and Campton Township, for its economic development survey. Also awarded grants were East Dundee and West Dundee for their joint efforts on the market analysis of Dundee Main Street and Maple Park for its economic development plan and workshops in community visioning. Development or enhancement of their Internet city Web sites earned grants for St. Charles, South Elgin and Sugar Grove.
The grantees were chosen based on recommendation of the County Board’s Economic Development Committee.
