The United Way of McHenry County is hoping to raise $2.02 million in pledges for the 1998 annual campaign.

“We’re raising funds for next year’s distribution,” said Pete Smith, general campaign chairman.

This is the first year the McHenry County branch has tried to reach the $2 million mark. Early results are about $30,000 higher than last year at this point, Smith said.

In 1997 the non-profit United Way served more than 50,000 residents through 22 member agencies with 44 local programs.

“We work very hard to see that the fund stays in McHenry County,” Smith said.
