As a former lifetime resident of the city of Chicago, I say good riddance.
Why did I leave? I left because all the city wants is my money, money, money–a $60 city sticker that does not allow me to park on my own block unless I purchase a parking permit; parking/revenue tickets when I was legally parked, and then being told to pay up because you are guilty until proven innocent; property taxes so high that a middle-class family of three struggles to survive on $50,000 a year. Forget about buying a house. The city is being invaded with little cubicles called condos and townhouses to the tune of $200,000 plus. And there is the most poorly designed road system, which requires a one hour drive to go 10 to 15 miles.
Goodbye, Mayor Daley. I can’t wait until the yuppies figure you out and desert you like I did.
