The Village of Buffalo Grove will file a complaint with the Illinois Commerce Commission if Commonwealth Edison doesn’t establish a plan for improving electrical service reliability within 60 days, according to a resolution passed at Monday night’s Village Board meeting.
Village Manager Bill Balling said he has talked with ComEd officials and worked out a plan that involves tree-trimming, replacement of fuses with automatic reclosing devices and tree removal.
Officials said the plan may require a surcharge on utility customers to fund tree-cutting.
Balling said the plan could be implemented within 60 days. However, some residents are cynical about ComEd’s commitment to reducing the likelihood of power outages.
“We don’t really believe that Commonweath Edison is going to do anything but make a lot of noise,” said Carla Nachumson, who lives on Chatham Circle, a street frequently affected. “We expect the board to carry through with the ICC complaint, when Commonwealth Edison doesn’t carry through with these improvements,” Nachumson said.
