Fabian Helmer, 85, of Mt. Prospect died Monday in Holy Family Medical Center, Des Plaines. Mr. Helmer retired in 1976 as an apartment building maintenance man for Alfini Construction Co., Park Ridge, after 15 years of service. Mr. Helmer previously did maintenance work in Chicago. “He was a good man, a good father and a good grandfather,” said his wife, Anna. “He worked hard in his life, and he provided for our retirement.” Other survivors include a son, Nick; a daughter, Rose Garlasco; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Rd., Mt. Prospect, to be followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Ligouri Catholic Church, 411 N. Wheeling Rd., Prospect Heights.
