Paul S. Foss, 49, of Buffalo Grove died of a heart attack Wednesday in Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. Since 1989 Mr. Foss was manager of field service for Perma-Pipe Inc., Niles, a manufacturer of preinsulated piping systems for institutional power plants. Mr. Foss retired in 1989 as a chief petty officer in the Navy, where he served 20 years as an aviation electrician. “Service technicians all over the country and overseas were guided by Paul,” said Bill Harris, vice president of Perma-Pipe. “He was a man who was very personable and really looked out for his people. He was an extremely hard-worker in a highly stressful job.” His son Brian Foss said, “He was one of the best men I ever knew.” Other survivors include his wife, Catherine; another son, Eric; a daughter, Melissa; and three brothers, William, Robert and Arthur. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by services, in Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine.
