On Jan. 10 a letter appeared from one of your readers berating drivers of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs). I take exception to the tone of the letter, and it is obvious that this person doesn’t know a hill of beans about SUVs or four-wheel-drive trucks.
Granted, some drivers do not understand the maneuverability of 4x4s or SUVs, but to declare that all owners of SUVs are incompetent is plain crazy. I have owned a 4×4 for the past 10 years, and I am certainly a very capable and responsible driver. I have never caused an accident while driving my 4×4. My insurance company applauds and rewards me with lower premiums for my spotless driving record.
As long as I reside in the state of Illinois with the wonderful winters around here, I will continue to own and operate a 4×4 vehicle.
From my own observations, the biggest menace on the road are the owners of mini-vans.
