Company: Regillo Consulting Group, a Park Ridge-based computer consulting company
Salary range for this job: $35,000 to $95,000
Time on this job: 4 1/2 years
Previous job: I did network management for Regillo.
Age: 29
Education: BS in computer science from Southern Illinois University, and I have a network engineer certification from Novell and an NT/Windows support professional certification from Microsoft.
How I got this job: The company needed to put a Web site together, and with my computer knowledge, the job just fell into place.
Why I took this job: I still loved networking, but the Webmaster job offered the creative outlet that other aspects of computing don’t give.
Main responsibilities: I manage Regillo’s Web site, and I create and manage Web sites for our clients. A Web site basically is like an electronic brochure, but many companies and individuals have sites for other purposes, such as e-commerce, to promote ideas or just for fun. I take printed content, such as a brochure or company news, and put it into an electronic format for the Web site. I design a site by using graphics and images to spice up the information and make it visually appealing to the end user, and I make sure the information is easy and accessible. I update Regillo’s Web site about once a week, or immediately when there’s new information to post. For our clients, I update their sites when needed via my office computer or at their offices, and I ensure the sites are properly running.
Best thing about the job: The rush I get from watching people’s excitement when they see the concept being turned into creation.
Worst thing about the job: Long hours.
My ideal next job: I’d like to continue in the same company, but in a managerial position.
Advice to job seekers in this field: Learn as much as you can and stay on-line. Things are constantly changing, so you have to stay in touch with current technologies and the Internet.
