The Village of Island Lake will pursue a $86,750 state grant to fund a bike path, the Village Board has decided.
In a 5-0 vote last week, the board agreed to apply for the grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Trustee Patrick Harvey said the village should hear back within six to eight weeks on whether the application has been approved.
Harvey said the village has a good chance to win the grant because neighboring villages may be linked to the path in the future.
“This is not a pie-in-the-sky kind of thing, we are in a key location,” Harvey said.
The village wants the $86,750 grant to construct the bike path along existing walking trails in Veterans Park. The grant would pay for asphalt paving, restrooms, parking spaces, lighting, signage and benches, Harvey said.
