Latrell Sprewell was cleared Monday to return to practice for the New York Knicks after spending three weeks sidelined with a stress fracture of his right heel.
Sprewell may return when the Knicks play Friday night at Milwaukee at home Sunday against New Jersey.
“If I’m having a lot of soreness after practice (Tuesday morning), then I’m going to have to back off,” Sprewell said.
Sprewell, acquired in January from the Golden State Warriors for John Starks, Chris Mills and Terry Cummings, played in only two games for the Knicks–both losses–before being diagnosed with the injury. He was averaging 14.5 points.
