Lawrence Falstein, 73, a resident of Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood for the last quarter century, was taken prisoner after fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery. He died Sunday of heart trouble in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. In 1988, he organized an annual reunion for the prisoners of war kept in the Stalag 4B Camp in Germany. Mr. Falstein grew up in Humboldt Park, attended Tuley High School and graduated in 1948 from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. After the war, Mr. Falstein was one of the founders of Tri-Pack Corp. in Chicago and served as CEO for more than 20 years before retiring in 1986. While he was at the company, which made corrugated containers, Mr. Falstein was one of the first to develop point-of-purchase retail displays. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly; a son, Lyndon, and a sister, Sara Goodman. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Emanuel Congregation, 5959 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago.
