Carl E. Cogdill, 74, of Mt. Prospect died Wednesday in Holy Family Medical Center, Des Plaines. Mr. Cogdill, who was born in Louisville, retired in 1985 after 40 years in the steel industry. He most recently served as a foreman and shop manager at Gerber Steel Co., formerly in Chicago. Mr. Cogdill was a decorated World War II Marine Corps veteran who fought in the Battle of Midway. “He was determined to live life to its fullest and he did it his way,” said his daughter Mary Jones. “He was a loving husband and a great father.” Other survivors include his wife, Marilyn; four sons, David, James, William and Christopher; three other daughters, Patricia Holt, Susan Sharko and Virginia Banicki; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, when a service will begin in Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling.
