From kelly to the palest sea glass, a surplus of green flourished on spring runways, and that indeed is a change. It was Army drab from Prada’s Miu Miu and Helmut Lang, a clean, crisp mint from Jil Sander and a clear jade from Michael Kors at Celine. The trend leaves the runway and hits home design as well.

“Color is one of the most interesting devices we have at our disposal,” says architect and colorist Paul Florian. “Upbeat and expressive” is how he sees the trio of paints he chose for this article.

“I think the translucent greens are a symbol of technology,” he says, “a synthetic color seen in computer electronics and plastics. It also maintains symbols of nature, of what is good and grows. I think there is a confluence of these two ideas right now that makes these greens of the moment.”

The colors featured can be used together as an ensemble in a series of spaces or within a single room.

“As a palette these tints avoid trendiness or specific references to recognizable periods of design,” Florian concludes.
