Two people, including a Chicago firefighter, were injured Saturday morning in a fire that gutted a South Side carwash and damaged a neighboring dry cleaner.
The fire began around 10:30 a.m. in a one-story building at 1362 W. 103rd St., said Fire Department spokesman Patrick Howe, and spread to engulf a two-story building to the east.
The blaze caused the carwash’s roof to collapse and took about an hour to get under control, Howe said.
All but one carwash worker escaped without injury. That victim was treated by paramedics at the scene and declined to comment further.
The firefighter suffered a back injury while leaving the carwash to escape the falling roof. He was taken to Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in good condition, Howe said.
