Investigators late Tuesday were looking into the cause of a grass fire that burned for a 5-mile stretch along the Wisconsin Central Railroad tracks from Antioch to the Wisconsin border.

Fire officials suspect the blaze, which started at about 1:30 p.m. behind the Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church at Grass Lake Road and Illinois Highway 83, was sparked by a passing train, said Antioch Deputy Fire Chief Leonard Sakalowski.

Sakalowski said both freight and Metra passenger trains use the tracks.

Firefighters from five local departments and seven departments from southern Wisconsin fought the blaze for two hours before putting it out, Sakalowski said.

No was injured, he said.

Damage from the fire was apparently confined to railroad property, said Sakalowski.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fire Department at 847-395-5511.
