Barbara Brotman’s column on Hillary Clinton’s potential run for the New York Senate seat (“Sen. Clinton: No Thanks for the Memories,” March 7) was accurate down to the molecule. I, too, am a lifelong Democrat whose beliefs concur with those of the First Lady, but her personal behavior has made me want to take your message to the highest mountaintop and shout about it for days.
She sends a profoundly disturbing message to women who are either in bad marriages and/or who are ambitious. You could not have said it more perfectly.

In rebuttal to your commentary on Hillary Clinton, I would just like to say: Shame on you! Hillary is a fine example of womanhood–one that I would love to show my daughter. I do not believe that a woman who forgives a man, or vice versa, for an indiscretion is somehow perceived as abused or weak. Walking away from the marriage is the easy part–take it from someone who has been there. Staying and forgiving is the challenge.
So to you, Hillary, I say “You go girl!” I believe she will triumph, and deservedly so!

Thanks for your column about Mrs. Clinton. You expressed my view perfectly. Despite the fact that I am more in agreement with her political views than any other public figure in my memory, I wouldn’t vote for her for dog catcher. She traded her self-respect for opportunistic gains. Some role model!

WEDNESDAY IS BETTER
Thank you, thank you, thank you. As the ’90s come to a close, I can’t think of a better way of beginning to bring back calm and rational, non-politically correct discourse than by helping the WomanNews section one step farther along toward mid-week oblivion. For years, this men-bashing section has been a sharp stick in the eye every Sunday morning to men everywhere in Chicagoland, and, lakeshore liberals aside, I am sure most of us are glad to see it move to Wednesday. I applaud your choice of a Family section on Sundays, as I believe a lot of the angry feminists who may have been part of the early WomanNews readership are now mellow moms. They moved on in life to find out what men have known all along: You can’t have it all.
