Here’s some advice from Dr. Ruth Westheimer, writing in Porthole magazine: “If you take a cruise and book a cabin with a veranda, it’s OK to make love on the veranda — providing no one can see you, you have the cabin door to the hallway locked from the inside and — above all — don’t get sunburned!”

Good advice no doubt, yet getting intimate on the veranda rates only number eight in a Porthole Web site survey of the best places on a ship to . . . well, you know. Here, in order, are the top 10: in the cabin, by the pool, in a lifeboat, at the disco, in the casino, in a hot tub, by the smokestack, on that veranda, in the spa/gym and in the galley.

But if you’re merely talking romance, here, in order, is Porthole’s list of the top 10 romantic activities on board: strolling in the moonlight, kissing, dancing, sharing a romantic dinner, stargazing, watching the sunset, drinking champagne, giving each other a massage, having breakfast in bed and indulging in aphrodisiacs.

And if you’re looking for love, look in all the right places. The magazine says that if you want to meet people in their 40s and up, consider a more upscale line like Holland America or Crystal Cruises. Meanwhile, moderately priced lines with shorter itineraries, such as Carnival or Norwegian, are more likely to attract people in their 20s and 30s.
