Next Sunday TV Week will introduce a new look and an expanded programming package that includes listings for 11 popular channels widely available in the Chicago area, an easy-to-read daytime program grid, more movie descriptions and 24-hour information about what’s on TV.
The additional channels include Home & Garden Television, Turner Classic Movies, Animal Planet, Court TV, HBO Plus, Golf Channel, Classic Sports Network, CSPAN2, Galavision, Fox News Channel and WWTO-Ch. 35. These and eight other channels currently listed in TV Week also will be added to the daily television page in Tempo.
Other TV Week additions include film recommendations from Tribune movie critic Michael Wilmington, TV-viewing picks from Tribune television writer Allan Johnson, sports highlights organized by sport, an easy-to-navigate table of contents plus more program previews and features.
These additions will make the Tribune the most comprehensive source of programming in the Chicago area, especially during prime time viewing hours.
In order to make room for this expansion, the Tribune has added pages and dropped VCR Plus numbers and other features from TV Week, thereby increasing space in each day’s television grid.
Our decision to drop VCR Plus was based on surveys that showed an overwhelming majority of readers place higher priority on expanded grids and listings.
While technology is continuously presenting new options for recording television programs, some readers still rely on VCR Plus. The Tribune will continue to publish the hotline number operated by VCR Plus for those seeking the codes.
We value our readers and believe the expanded TV package will make their viewing choices easier.
