Christopher Reeve believes he will someday walk again, but said recent video that showed his legs moving during therapy shouldn’t be misconstrued.

The paralyzed actor-director was videotaped May 1 at the University of California at Los Angeles, suspended in a harness while researchers moved his legs in a walking motion on a treadmill.

The video was shared with TV stations. Some media reported or gave the impression that he is now able to walk, Reeve said.

“Unfortunately, this is not the case. I am completely paralyzed from the rib cage down,” he said Thursday. “However, I am participating in a cutting-edge therapy which is part of my overall exercise program.”

Reeve, who played Superman in four movies from 1978 to 1987, has been paralyzed since 1995, when he was thrown from a horse.
