The Huntley Village Board is expected to vote Thursday on a developer’s request to offer half the recommended number of parking spaces at a proposed retirement center.
Brookwood Communities Inc. wants to have an off-street parking ratio of half a parking space per living unit in the retirement center, which is to be built on Freeman Road, west of Illinois Highway 47.
The proposed 300,000-square-foot center is to be on an 8-acre site and contain 300 living units, according to Lori North of Brookwood Communities. The building will occupy half the site, she said.
North said the minimal parking ratio should be sufficient since “most of our clientele is in their 80s. They get rid of their cars.”
But Drew Petterson, senior vice president of Thompson Dyke & Associates, a land-planning firm that is a consultant to the village, recommends that the village requires at least one parking space per living unit for such a facility.
