The June 20 editorial “The shame of the House” blamed what happened at Columbine High School on gun shows and blamed the House for defeating the gun-control bill. The gun-control bill would not have prevented the tragedy at Columbine or the later shootings in Georgia. When you go to the store and buy something with a check or a credit card, it is run through a computer and the cashier can tell in a few seconds if you have sufficient funds to make the purchase. There is no reason why a similar computer network can’t be set up to provide instant checks on gun purchases.
