I applaud the commitment of Mayor Richard Daley and schools chief Paul Vallas to the city schools. I think there is already a better attitude among students and teachers. But they have left out one major item–air conditioning. It is very difficult for a student to sit six hours a day in humid, sweltering heat and maintain much interest. Let’s work for a cool 21st Century.
