Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and the Daddy Daddying Daddies have made some pop-music fans so sick of swing music they’re ready to swear off it entirely. That would be a big mistake. There’s still gold in the good stuff – Benny Goodman, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Louis Jordan – and the swing-dance scene is way more fun than free-jiggling to random rock bands.
The Chicago Skyline Big Band and Rockerfellers Orchestra understand this, bringing “high-energy renditions of old classics,” to an outdoor Swing Band Extravaganza at 8 p.m. Friday at the Marie Irwin Bandshell, Ridge Road and Highland Avenue, Homewood. Tickets: $10. 708-957-0300.
