As a devout Cubs fan, I seldom visit Comiskey Park, the home of the White Sox. I made an exception during the recent inter-league series between the Cubs and the Sox. Here are a few observations:
– I marveled at the excellent condition of the large, remote parking lots at Comiskey. Then I figured that they were rarely, if ever, used because full-house crowds never happen there.
– My sons and I sat behind home plate in the top row of the infamous upper deck. We were so high that we could see the Mississippi River. Or was it the Rocky Mountains?
– Not only is the upper deck high, but it is very steep. I saw a frightened woman struggle up to Row 25, turn and look down. The sheer terror she experienced turned her brown hair completely snow white.
– Sox fans appear to eat and drink more than Cubs fans. But you couldn’t prove it at Row 29. No vendors were tough enough to climb with their packs to the upper Himalayas.
– The public address system at Comiskey is extremely loud. I observed startled, battle-hardened Chicago pigeons fleeing the area between innings.
Indeed, Comiskey Park is quite an experience. It’s too bad it won’t be filled again till the next Cubs series.
