Too much space or not enough storage? Both can coexist in one room. Substantial square footage can turn into dead space when the room doesn’t have walls in the right places or enough nooks and crannies to stash all your stuff.

Fortunately, there are ways around these predicaments with a new crop of storage systems. These tend to be attractive from both sides, so you can shape spaces without walls. Some are even accessible from front and back, and multiple components allow others to adjust to a space.

Best of all, these are the consummate room modifiers. By moving or rearranging a few components or combining at least two of these systems, a generous space is made manageable and livable.
