I read with sadness the article about the Lake Michigan boating accident that cost the lives of a father and two daughters (News, Aug. 21). While visiting Chicago this summer, I saw boat after boat going out the Chicago River for an excursion on the lake, with no passengers wearing any type of life jackets. I was amazed that these boaters of all ages neither choose to nor were required to use these jackets.
