A proposal to build three office buildings on Hunt Club Road was rejected by the Gurnee Planning Commission Wednesday night after neighbors said the development would hurt their property values.

The proposal by Hunt Club Office Park Inc. called for the construction of three 11,000-square-foot buildings on a mostly vacant and unincorporated four acres on Hunt Club Road south of Dada Drive. Offices in the buildings would be sold to professional tenants, such as doctors and lawyers, according to the proposal.

More than 50 residents who turned out for the Wednesday meeting said increased traffic and stray light from poles in the parking lot would be detrimental to their neighborhoods. Residential subdivisions abut the property to the north and west, and a 46-acre park lies to the south.

“I just don’t see the compelling reason to change the zoning,” said James Sula, a member of the planning commission.

The proposal could still be brought before the Village Board for reconsideration at a later date, officials said.
