Construction should begin soon on a new middle school after the Troy Community Consolidated School District 30-C board selected a builder.
The school board last week gave the $15.5 million contract to A.J. Maggio Co. of Mt. Prospect. The company was selected over nine other bidders.
The new middle school, to accommodate 1,000 students, will be built on 33 acres on Theodore Street just west of Illinois Highway 59. The school will include 30 classrooms, an auditorium, eight science labs and a computer lab.
The site work for the school was recently completed, said Earl Petersen, district assistant superintendent for business. Officials hope to open the school in 2001.
The district has a middle school on Black Road just east of Illinois Highway 59. That school is to become an elementary school.
