In the last year alone too many stories have been told of high school and elementary students attacking their schools, destroying property and their classmates’ lives. They act in a violent manner, using guns and bombs to destroy and kill.
School shootings have raised controversy as to why these events are occurring and how to stop them. As a 14-year-old teenager, I happen to believe that revenge is the main cause of school shootings. The teenage life is very complex socially. Teenagers are constantly gossiping, telling lies and teasing other people whom might be different from them. This causes a lot of rage and a need to let a person’s emotions out.
Today parents spend less and less time with their children. Parents spend more time traveling on business or using the Internet to do work at home. Children need their parents to be an emotional outlet, and when their parents are away and unable to communicate with their children, the teenagers have no one to turn to when they are enraged or upset emotionally. Instead they turn to physical action. In the minor cases the disgruntled teenager might get in a physical fight. In the most severe cases, murder or suicide occurs.
Parents must observe their children, spend more time with them, communicate with them and, most importantly, give them the emotional support that a child deserves to get from his parents.
