Director William Christie will take part in discussions and a performance workshop with his early music ensemble Les Arts Florissants as part of the group’s appearance this week in downtown Chicago.
He will conduct a semi-staged concert performance of Purcell’s opera, “King Arthur,” at 8 p.m. Monday at Symphony Center, sponsored by Symphony Center Presents in collaboration with the University of Chicago’s Howard Mayer Brown International Early Music Series.
Christie will take part in a pre-concert conversation about the Purcell work at 6:45 p.m. Monday in Grainger Ballroom at Symphony Center (free to ticketholders).
Residency activities by Les Arts Florissants will be held in the University of Chicago’s Fulton Recital Hall, 1010 E. 59th St., fourth floor. Christie will coach student musicians in Baroque works in a performance workshop at 1 p.m. Tuesday. At 4 p.m. Tuesday, he will join university scholars for a panel discussion, “Representing Purcell in His Time and Ours.”
